Agra has a new luxury address, Taj Hotel & Convention Centre opens

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has introduced the iconic Taj brand in Agra with the opening of Taj Hotel & Convention Centre, Agra. The hotel, spread over 4.5 acres, is ideally located within walking distance from the Taj Mahal. The 239 spacious rooms are elegantly designed in a contemporary style. The hotel offers multiple dining options such as Palato, the all-day diner, Daawat-e-Nawaab, the Indian specialty restaurant and two lounges – Liquid Lounge and Tea Lounge. The pièce de résistance is Infini – The Sky Lounge, a rooftop bar with stunning views of the Taj Mahal. Guests can enjoy a swim in the infinity pool which also overlooks the Taj Mahal. Aiming to lure a big chunk of luxury leisure and business travellers, Rohit Khosla, executive vice president – operations, north and west India, IHCL, said, “Agra is renowned world over for being one of the most culturally rich cities. Wah Taj: Fourth Taj hotel in Dubai at Deira creek

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Taj hotel at the Deira Creek in Dubai in partnership with Ithra Dubai LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD). The new Taj hotel is a Greenfield project slated to open in early 2022, conveniently positioned 15 minutes from Dubai International Airport. This hotel will be part of Deira Waterfront Development – one of Dubai’s most significant rejuvenation projects. An urban oasis, the hotel will have approximately 200 spacious rooms and suites with a selection of rooms cantilevered over the water, with scenic waterfront views. The hotel will include all-day dining and specialty restaurants, a bar and lounge, banqueting facilities and a spa. "A significant market for IHCL" Commenting on the signing of this agreement, Puneet Chhatwal, managing director and CEO at The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), said: “The Middle East is a significant market for IHCL. We are honoured to partner with Ithra Dubai for this new hotel in Deira - the historical and cultural centre of Dubai. Taj and Shangri-La integrate loyalty programmes

Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok Two of Asia's biggest hospitality names, Taj and Shangri-La, have officially integrated their guest loyalty programmes. In a reception at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, Shangri-La's acting president, Madhu Rao, and Taj's managing director & CEO, Rakesh Sarna, formally unveiled “Warmer Welcomes” – the merger of Shangri-La’s Golden Circle and Taj’s InnerCircle loyalty schemes across the two companies. Under the terms of the deal, members of the two programmes will be offered benefits and the ability to earn points when staying at more than 200 Shangri-La or Taj properties in 131 destinations worldwide. In addition, members are able to convert and redeem points for stays at both companies' hotels. Golden Circle and InnerCircle members must first link their account to the other programme on the new website, warmerwelcomes.com. To launch the alliance, members of both programmes will be able to earn triple on bookings from now through 30 June 2017.

Taj rebrands to segment portfolio

Indian hotel giant Taj has announced plans to update its brand name and services, in an effort to more clearly define its portfolio. The company, which is owned by The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), will now be known as Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris, with the new umbrella brand comprising four separate sub-brands: Taj Hotels, Taj Palaces, Taj Resorts and Taj Safaris. The Vivanta by Taj and Gateway hotel brands will now be merged under the main Taj banner. The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai Previously, the company was known as Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces. IHCL said that the new branding would "connects back to the recently unveiled Tajness philosophy which takes the best from the Taj's past and redefines it for the future". "The new brand identity is a reflection of guest insight and research with all stakeholders including associates, owners and partners, all of whom indicated a stronger emotional connect and affinity for brand Taj," it added. Under revised brand standards, all Taj Hotels will offer in-room check-in, "living room"-style lobbies, and 24-7 services including breakfast, fitness centres and spas. Taj Palaces will feature themed suites and butler service, Taj Resorts will offer sustainable F&B and traditional Indian spa treatments, while Taj Safaris will be sustainable, community-focused properties located in or near national parks. The new branding was unveiled by Taj's CEO & managing director, Rakesh Sarna, at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. "The new brand identity honours the renowned legacy of the Taj in a structure that will create greater brand resonance with our guests and also allow for considerable value creation for all our stakeholders. Taj as a brand, truly speaks to the nation’s pride and the redesigned architecture is a tangible step in celebrating our heritage while recognising the need to prepare for the bright future of India’s tomorrow," he said. The transition of all Taj hotels to the new branding and guest service concepts is expected to be completed by December 2017.

Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines celebrate partnership

  Tata Sons (Tata) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) celebrated the successful merger of Air India and Vistara at a symbolic ceremony held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, heralding a new era in their deep and longstanding partnership. Marking the dawn of a new chapter for the Indian aviation industry were Mr Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, and Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, as well as senior management and employees from Tata, SIA, Air India, and Vistara. Consolidating the four airlines within the Air India Group into one full-service and one low-cost airline is part of the ongoing, five-year Vihaan.AI transformation programme. This creates an Air India Group with a significant presence across all key segments of the Indian market - domestic, international, full-service, and low-cost operations. This will help to enhance the Group’s operational capabilities, expand its customer base, and gradually elevate service standards, product excellence, and the customer experience. Post-merger, the Air India Group operates a combined fleet of 300 aircraft covering 55 domestic and 48 international destinations, with 312 routes and 8,300 flights per week. The airline will offer extended worldwide connectivity to over 800 destinations through more than 75 codeshare and interline partners. The collective staff strength stands at over 30,000. Viking Announces New River Voyages in India

Viking announced its first river voyages in India on the Viking Brahmaputra, a new 80-guest vessel designed specifically for the Brahmaputra River. Currently under construction and scheduled to debut in late 2027, the Viking Brahmaputra will set a new standard for modern river voyages in India. The ship will sail between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat in the northeastern state of Assam as part of Viking’s new 15-day itinerary, Wonders of India. In addition to an eight-day river voyage, the itinerary includes a fully-guided land programme with overnights in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. “With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries.
