A series of new campaigns have been launched to highlight the best of Sichuan cuisine.
The Sichuan Provincial Tourism Development Committee and Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce have jointly launched two new campaigns, including a restaurant certification initiative and a global marketing campaign.
The new ‘Sichuan Cuisine Restaurant Certification’ campaign will see the world’s best Sichuan restaurants recognised in a rating system. A group of anonymous restaurant critics will be deployed, who will provide restaurants with Gold Panda, Silver Panda and Bronze Panda accreditation.
Also being launched this month is the ‘Sichuan Gourmet Tour’. This event is aimed at discovering the best Sichuan restaurants from around the world, with promotional events being held in cities including Shanghai, Seoul, Moscow, San Francisco, Melbourne, Tokyo, Taiwan, Hong Kong and New Delhi.
An award ceremony to find the world’s “Most Renowned Sichuan Restaurant” is scheduled to take place in October.
Sometimes spelled Szechuan, Sichuan cuisine is one of China’s eight culinary traditions. It is well known for its use of chilli, garlic and Sichuan pepper.
