Sofitel to open in Wellington
Accor has announced plans to open a Sofitel in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington.
The Sofitel Wellington, which will become the first new international luxury hotel to open in the city for two decades, is being developed at the former Apple & Pear Board Office Building on Bolton Street at a cost of NZ$35 million (US$30m). Once the conversion is completed in 2014, facilities at the hotel will include 130 rooms, a ground-floor restaurant, indoor pool, fitness centre and three meeting rooms.
“The development of the Sofitel will play a major role in further elevating Wellington’s international profile,” said Wouter de Graaf, area general manager of Sofitel New Zealand. “It is a long time since a hotel development of this status and quality has been announced in the national capital and it will help attract significant increases in tourism, business travel and conferences to the city.”
The hotel will become Accor’s third Sofitel in New Zealand, following existing hotels in Auckland and Queenstown.
