SpiceJet has announced a major expansion into north Indian cities, starting next week. In the first phase of its north India expansion, the low-cost carrier will connect to Amritsar, Chandigarh, Srinagar and Indore. New Delhi will be the airlines third base after Hyderabad and Chennai for its new Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop fleet.
“We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our footprint further in north India. With our expanded network, SpiceJet would be the only low-cost airline to have such a strong presence across India with 36 destination airports domestically,” SpiceJet CEO, Neil Mills said in an official statement.
The airline took delivery of five Bombardier aircraft last week and increased its fleet size of such aircraft to 12 planes. Interestingly, the airline has christened its five new aircraft after Indian spices like Dhaniya, Haldi, Javitri, Jaiphal and Laung.
