The city-state received almost 100,000 tourists from the Middle East last year, mostly from the Gulf region. It was a 73% increase over 2002, when there were 57,000 visitors from the Middle East.
Singapore Tourism Board executives were quoted saying that they expected the number of Gulf visitors in the coming years, especially with the Formula 1 race later this year.
Daily flights have been introduced by Qatar Airways between Doha and Singapore and non-stop flights by Singapore Airlines and Emirates between Dubai and the city-state.
