Starwood Capital Group’s founder, chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht has made a personal investment into hotel booking app HotelTonight.
‘King of Hotels’ Sternlicht, who created W Hotels, will provide funds to the growing mobile up which concentrates on same-day bookings.
“Booking windows are shrinking and customers are going mobile, trends which position HotelTonight perfectly for the future. But there’s something more that attracted me – it’s that HotelTonight is proving booking by booking that both hotels and distributors can win. HotelTonight is a refreshing alternative that should become a major participant in the future of hotel distribution,” said Sternlicht.
HotelTonight has also announced partnerships with the IHG, Hyatt, Best Western, Kimpton, FRHI, Barcelo and Steigenberger hotel groups with more to be added.
Since its launch in January 2010 the app has been downloaded nine million times and has raised more than US$80 million funding.
