An air traffic controllers’ strike in Portugal has grounded flights today. The 24-hour strike, in protest against the country’s proposed austerity measures, has also affected Lisbon’s metro system as well as schools and hospitals.
In a statement on its website, national carrier TAP Portugal said that on 24 November only two domestic services were guaranteed to operate – Lisbon-Funchal and Lisbon-Terceira. British Airways meanwhile, has cancelled two of its three Heathrow-Lisbon flights today, although its evening service will operate at 1940 as scheduled.
Passengers are advised to contact their airline to check the status of their flight.
