The SuperStar Aquarius cruise ship arrived in the Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu this week, where it will homeport for the first time this winter.
The liner brought more than 1,100 passengers to the Sabah state capital, following a seven-night repositioning cruise from China, via Taiwan and the Philippines.
It will now be based in Kota Kinabalu until 30 March, 2014, operating a series of a three-night cruise from Kota Kinabalu to the local ports of Muara and Bintulu every Sunday. There will also be a series of one-night voyages from Wednesday to Saturday.
“Today is a milestone moment for Star Cruises as we become the first international cruise line to homeport a ship in Kota Kinabalu,” said William Ng, chief operating officer of Star Cruises.
“As an industry leader, Star Cruises has never stopped introducing new routes and creating new itineraries in the region. This deployment denotes our commitment to make Kota Kinabalu an international cruise hub. We are confident our deployment will attract not only domestic but also regional and international passengers to Sabah.”
The 13-deck SuperStar Aquarius can carry up to 1,246 passengers and features facilities including a large duty-free shopping area, a spa, casino, karaoke room, swimming pool and basketball court.
