SuperStar Gemini starts Shanghai season
Star Cruises has commenced a new Asian summer season, basing the SuperStar Gemini liner in Shanghai.
The liner kicked off its deployment this week, taking the first batch of passengers from China to Jeju, South Korea.
SuperStar Gemini will be homeported in Shanghai from now until October 2013, offering more than 40 cruises, ranging from three to six nights. Ports of call will include Busan, Jeju and Yeosu in South Korea, plus special cruises to Taiwan.
“The Shanghai homeport deployment is Star Cruises’ most significant strategy in China this year,” Michael Goh, Star Cruises’ senior vice president for sales said at the launch ceremony.
“As the leading cruise line in Asia Pacific, Star Cruises has the competitive advantage of having a better understanding of what Asian and Chinese travellers like in their holidays. SuperStar Gemini was refurbished with the preferences of Chinese tourists in mind. In addition to the revamped dining and recreational facilities, we forged a partnership with China Duty Free Group to launch an upscale duty-free shopping boulevard onboard that offers designer brands and luxury goods. This ensures passengers a one-stop cruise holiday that encompasses all elements of a memorable holiday.”
Star Cruises, which in a unit of Genting Hong Kong, operates five cruise ships. The SuperStar Gemini holds 2,156 passengers.
