Travel companies have been showing their support for the Travel Foundation’s Make Holidays Greener Week, which starts on Saturday. Holiday Extras is encouraging travel agents to get involved in the eco-awareness week by offering the chance to win a solar powered travel charging kit. The ancillary provider will award the prize to 10 travel agents that send in the best green travel tips by responding to a Holidays Extra email or via a banner on its website. “I’m sure our partners have some unique and inspired suggestions which can also be shared with customers,” said Andrea Clayton, head of partnerships and insurance at Holiday Extras. Meanwhile, Sunvil has pledged its support through a series of initiatives in its resorts. Sunvil Holidays and GIC The Villa Collection representatives will be encouraging guests to recycle, while also using local produce in its office, welcome packs and hampers in Greece. Sunvil Discovery will also be sending ‘bags for life’ to clients departing during the week and both tour operator arms will give clients a list of green travel ideas on arrival. “We’re supporting the ‘Make Holidays Greener’ campaign by asking our clients to make simple changes on their holiday. We believe small steps, such as using air conditioning and water sparingly, can go a long way,” said Noel Josephides, managing director of Sunvil.
