Upcoming Swiss hotel will let you ski straight to the slopes – from its roof

Located in western Switzerland, Audemars Piguet Hôtel des Horlogers will soon open – and let visitors ski from its roof straight onto the slopes of the Vallée de Joux ski resort.

Currently under construction, the 7,000-square-metre ski lodge by Bjarke Ingles Group (BIG) will stand next to the property of Swiss watchmaker, Audemars Piguet, which was also designed by the architecture firm. The date of completion is yet to be announced.

Audemars Piguet Hôtel des Horlogers will feature an architecture that will integrate to the sloping topography of the site. It’s made of stacks of linear tilted slabs, which creates a series of grass-like terraces.

Inside the hotel is a flowing corridor that connects all 50 hotel rooms. Five zigzagging room slabs expand into a sloping exterior path, leading directly to the museum and local ski trails. On the interior, a continuous sloping corridor connects the rooms, facilitating visitor and service circulation.

It will house two restaurants, a bar, a spa and a conference centre, which are strategically tucked underneath the tilted slabs.

From the main access road, the hotel’s tilting slabs frame views of the surrounding Vallée de Joux, establishing a
connection between the village and the pastoral landscape. The hotel will provide visitor facilities next to the Audemars Piguet watch museum, where the watchmaker has been since 1875.
