In a recent survey of 1,500 parents, Kenwood Travel found that 50% would happily take their kids on holiday during term time, despite the threat of a fine, while another 18% already had.
In the immediate wake of a recent High Court win by a father who had been fined for taking his daughter on holiday during school term, term-time bookings rose 88%.
Since 2013, stricter laws were put in place making it trickier for children to get time off school, citing only ‘exceptional circumstances’ as a valid excuse.
It appears that these new stricter laws are not popular amongst parents with only 16% actually agreeing with them. And with over 86 000 fines having been issued over 100 councils, it’s quite clear that the threat of a fine has done little to deter parents from taking their kids on holidays during the cheaper off-peak period.
