Crystal Cruises has unveiled the next addition to its Crystal Yacht Cruises venture – a 183-metre-long, 200-passenger mega-yacht that will feature huge suites, a cinema, theatre, helicopters and submarines.
The new 25,000-gross tonne Crystal Endeavor will be “the largest and most spacious mega-yacht afloat”, according to Crystal. Named after Captain Cook’s ship, HMS Endeavour, the newly-built yacht will be designed for global expeditions in Arctic, Antarctic and tropical locations. It is expected to launch in 2018.
Crystal Yacht Cruises launched in late 2015 with the 62-passenger Crystal Esprit.
“With Crystal Esprit, we discover
ed there are many guests, young and young at heart, who enjoy sports at sea and discovering remote islands, and as the interests and age of luxury travellers increasingly vary, we will continue to expand our collection of luxury travel options,” said Crystal’s president & CEO, Edie Rodriguez.
“Luxury means something different to virtually everyone, and we strive to meet and exceed the wishes of the discerning modern luxury traveller. Crystal Endeavor will cater to a particularly daring audience, one who values luxurious comfort and amenities as much as life-changing adventures.”
Crystal Endeavor will be the first purpose-built ‘Polar Code’ compliant yacht in the world. This will enable it to cruise in polar waters during the summer and autumn. It will be fitted with offshore positioning technology and computer-controlled systems that will enable the vessel to float over coral reefs and other underwater features without using anchors that could damage the seabed, or in waters too deep for anchors.
It will be able to follow the route of migrating whales to the Antarctica during winter, visiting remote Atlantic and Pacific islands along the way. It will also feature a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) to see sunken galleons, warships and passenger ships, such as the Titanic.
Other stand-out amenities will include two helicopters and two landing pads for airborne expeditions, two seven-person submarines, eight electric amphibious vehicles, jet skis, wave runners, kayaks, fishing facilities, paddle boards, snorkelling and scuba equipment, a recompression chamber, and a multi-person ATV. Finally, Crystal Endeavor will be equipped with SEABOBs – a new type of underwater scooter.
Onboard, the yacht will feature 100 balcony suites with a minimum size of 37m². The two Owner Suites will each cover 290m² and feature three bedrooms, indoor and outdoor living areas, a private conservatory, garden area, outdoor jacuzzi, spa, gym, sauna and steam room. The Owners Suite can also be connected to the 75m² Penthouse Suite for a combined floorspace of 365m².
Other onboard facilities will include spa, six F&B outlets, lecture rooms, a cinema, 200-seat theatre, a computer centre and an infinity pool which can be raised to become a dance floor or dining area.
Crystal Endeavor will be built in Germany, with work expected to commence in May 2016.
