JDA Travel has joined the new consortium formed by The Midcounties Co-op Travel.
The agency is the third to join Midcounties’ new venture, which also includes Channel Islands Co-operative and Chelmsford Star Co-operative. JDA’ involvement follows years of associations between JDA’s managing director John Donnelly and Ben Reid, chief executive of The Midcounties Co-op, who both created Holiday Hypermarkets (later bought by First Choice). JDA’s director Geoff Hurmson is also ex-group general manager, travel at Midcounties.
“John is one of the first to sign up and get the partnership off to a great start. We are excited about the consortium and believe it will deliver what its members need and also give them a voice in how it is run,” said Alistair Rowland, group general manager of travel services at Midcounties.
Midcounties is aiming to include 30 agency members with turnovers up to £20 million in three years in the new consortium. It will retain principal ATOL status for each member.
