Turkish Airlines has added flights from London Gatwick to a second Istanbul airport.
The new route to Sabiha Gökçen airport will operate three times a week to move up to a daily service from 1 June. The route will open up more connections into eastern Turkey and is in addition to its daily Gatwick-Ataturk service.
“Gatwick is an important airport in the London region and this increasing capacity will meet current and future demands in the area – flying to Sabiha Gökçen offers new and exciting opportunities,” said Osman Battal, director for Turkish Airlines at London Gatwick.
“The extra flights offer even more choice that ever thanks to our growing network from Istanbul, which now spans across 98 countries, providing 221 destinations worldwide for the region’s business and leisure traveller,” he added.
It comes as the airline prepares for a promotional boost during the Euroleague Final Four basketball tournament it is sponsoring.
As well as the matches at The O2 on Friday 10 May and Sunday 12 May there will also be a Turkish Airlines Euroleague Fan Zone in Trafalgar Square with a chance for the public to tests their skills and watch three-on-three competitions.
The carrier has also teamed up with Hertz for a new ‘Fly & Drive’ service through its website.
