The operators of the official Titanic Memorial Cruise reported a massive surge in hits to its website following the screening of the first episode of Julian Fellowes’ mini-series on ITV ‘Titanic’ the past weekend.
Demand for all things Titanic is set to peak with the centenary of the world’s most talked about ship sinking on her maiden voyage to New York in two weeks’ time. Miles Morgan, managing director of the Titanic Memorial Cruise, said: “We’ve had more traffic to the site in the last 24 hours than we have had over the last three weeks combined. We always knew the programme would create demand for the memorial cruises but this had far exceeded our expectations.
As well as the screening of the Titanic drama on ITV, the Oscar-winning movie directed by James Cameron and starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio is coming back to cinemas throughout the UK in 3D on 6 April and television adverts have already started promoting it. All the promotion has certainly resulted in healthy surge in last minute bookings and shoppers have flocked to the online store selling limited edition memorabilia and sales have surged since Sunday night’s screening of the first episode.
There are two official Titanic Memorial Cruises – one which leaves Southampton on 08 April and another which leaves New York on 10 April. Both cruises will enable descendants of Titanic passengers, enthusiasts and cruise passengers to be part of history by being together at the site where the Titanic sank, and pay respects at a special Memorial Service to take place at the exact time the Titanic sank 100 years before.
Every effort has been made to make the cruise authentic. The Balmoral departing from Southampton is operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, whose parent company Harland and Wolff built the Titanic in Belfast. More information about the cruise at http://titanicmemorialcruise.co.uk
