The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has released new data indicating that 2026 will see continued growth in the aviation sector, driven by increasing passenger numbers and high satisfaction levels. According to the CAA's survey, nearly one-third of consumers plan to fly more this year, with younger passengers, particularly those aged 18-34, showing the strongest intent to increase their travel.

The survey highlights that overall satisfaction with flying has reached its highest point since 2016, with 88% of respondents expressing contentment with their air travel experiences. However, satisfaction levels are lower among vulnerable groups, including those with accessibility needs and financial constraints. Selina Chadha, Group Director of Consumers and Markets at the CAA, noted, โ€œConsumers want to fly more and 2026 is lining up to be another year of growth, fuelled by demand from younger passengers.โ€

Despite the stable rate of complaints following flight disruptions, satisfaction with complaint handling has improved significantly, rising to 72%, a 10% increase from the previous year. The survey also reveals that whilst cost remains a significant barrier for non-flyers, overall satisfaction with value for money is at its highest since 2021.

Environmental concerns are prevalent, with three-quarters of consumers expressing worry about climate change. However, only 32% believe that reducing the environmental impact of flying should be the industry's top priority. As the aviation sector anticipates another year of growth, the CAA encourages the industry to focus on addressing passenger complaints efficiently and improving accessibility for all travellers
