Valpas certifies Iceland’s first bed bug-safe hotel

Black Sand Hotel is set to become Iceland's first Valpas-certified bed bug-safe hotel, marking a significant milestone in sustainable hospitality. As the hotel prepares for its February opening in the Ölfus region, it joins Valpas' network, which now spans 25 countries, including the UK, Japan, and Germany.

Located 57 km from Reykjavik, Black Sand Hotel features 70 rooms and nine suites, alongside amenities such as a restaurant and spa. The hotel draws inspiration from Iceland's volcanic landscape, blending local craftsmanship with Scandinavian design to create a serene environment for guests.

Martim Gois, Co-founder and CEO of Valpas, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "Black Sand was designed as a place where nature leads and people can slow down, a stay that matters. The decision to open as a Valpas bed bug-safe hotel reflects that same intention."

Óskar Vignisson, General Manager of Black Sand Hotel, highlighted the importance of the certification, saying, "By partnering with Valpas, we ensure every room is certified from day one, allowing our guests to enjoy a calm, secure, and worry-free stay."

Valpas Certification employs proprietary technology to intercept and prevent bed bug infestations without pesticides, offering continuous safety verification. This initiative not only enhances individual hotels but also contributes to safer travel destinations by reducing infestations in cities and regions.

Valpas, a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, collaborates with over 300 hotels worldwide, promoting safe and sustainable travel. As more hotels adopt this certification, the hospitality industry moves closer to achieving broader sustainability and quality objectives.
