Venues in Palembang, Indonesia, are unlikely to be ready in time for the start of the 26th Southeast Asian Games. The organising committee started gearing up for the event with the launch of the campaign Ayo! Indonesia Bisa! (Go! Indonesia you can do it!) in South Jakarta on Sunday. With the Games due to open on 11 November five venues are still yet to be completed, however, management officials are calm about the situation.
Inasoc Director General Rachmat Gobel told the Jakarta Globe; “Yes, there are several shortages here and there, but those are just small things and all the venues will be able to be used on time.” In fact, Gobel even admitted that some venues will not be finished in time and that, though capable of hosting the events, small work will be ongoing during the competition. “The most important thing is those venues can be used to stage the events. I don’t think minor work will bug athletes when competing,” he added.
