Washington DC tops LGBTQ+ honeymoon safety index

Washington, DC has been named the safest and most inclusive destination for LGBTQ+ honeymooners in the United States, according to Love Inc.'s inaugural LGBTQ+ Honeymoon Safety Index. The index, released by the leading equality-minded wedding publication, evaluates destinations based on legal protections, community support, and inclusive tourism offerings, among other factors.

The index ranks Washington, DC as the top destination, highlighting its comprehensive legal protections, LGBTQ+-inclusive policies, and vibrant queer culture. The city received an A grade for its commitment to ensuring LGBTQ+ couples feel celebrated and safe. Love Inc. describes DC as "the national benchmark for LGBTQ+ inclusion," noting its strong legal framework for equality and outstanding affirming healthcare.

Brittny Drye, founder and editor-in-chief of Love Inc., emphasised the importance of safety and inclusivity for honeymooners, stating, "Every couple deserves a honeymoon that’s not only romantic but also safe." She highlighted the economic impact of LGBTQ+ travel, which contributes billions to the US economy, and the need for recognition of this spending power.

The index draws from national resources such as the Human Rights Campaign and FBI hate crime statistics, assigning each state a composite score between 0 and 100. Additional modifiers account for regional nuances, ensuring a realistic reflection of experiences for honeymooners. The top 10 destinations also include Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Oregon.

Love Inc., founded in 2013, is dedicated to creating inclusive content for all couples, promoting the message that "love is love."
