TDM AWARDS - NOMINATE NOW!

Secret Atlas has unveiled its latest Antarctic Circle Expedition Micro Cruise by Air, set to commence in the 2027–28 and 2028–29 seasons. This innovative journey aboard the 36-guest Explorer Yacht Aureum allows travellers to bypass the traditional two-day Drake Passage crossing by flying directly from Puerto Natales, Chile, to King George Island, thus maximising time spent exploring the Antarctic Peninsula.

The Aureum, the first vessel of its size in Antarctica, offers a unique experience with a small group setting. Unlike typical Antarctic expeditions that host 100 to 200 guests, this cruise accommodates only 36, ensuring personalised attention with one Senior Polar Guide for every six guests. This setup allows for intimate wildlife encounters, including sightings of gentoo and Adélie penguins, humpback whales, and seals, with expert insights from onboard scientists and naturalists.

Michele D'Agostino, Co-Founder and CEO of Secret Atlas, highlighted the benefits of the air route: “Flying gives those days back to the Peninsula. With 36 guests on board, we can use every one of them, everyone ashore at once, no queue for the Zodiacs.”

The Aureum is designed for polar expeditions, featuring hybrid propulsion to reduce emissions and noise, and offers amenities such as panoramic observation areas and educational workshops. Prices for the 11-day expedition start at $16,500 per person, including flights, accommodation, and various activities. Bookings are now open for those eager to explore the Antarctic Circle in a more immersive and sustainable manner.
