Oman Air is targeting 30,000 Indonesian visitors to Salalah in 2027 under a new tourism agreement aimed at tapping into Southeast Asia's growing outbound travel market and strengthening Oman's appeal as a year-round destination. The national carrier has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Adhwaa Al Ardh Al Satiaa, under which the tourism company will purchase 30,000 seats on Oman Air flights connecting Jakarta to Salalah via Muscat. The agreement will see flight bookings bundled with tourism packages showcasing Dhofar's natural landscapes, cultural heritage and hospitality, offering Indonesian travellers an integrated way to explore southern Oman.
The partnership forms part of a broader strategy to diversify Oman's international visitor markets and reduce its dependence on traditional peak tourism periods. By targeting Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia's largest outbound travel markets, the initiative seeks to attract new visitor segments while generating business opportunities for hotels, tour operators and tourism service providers across Dhofar.
Dr Salim Al Shanfari, Chairman of Adhwaa Al Ardh Al Satiaa, said the partnership would make Oman more accessible to Indonesian travellers through comprehensive travel packages that combine the country's natural attractions with its cultural experiences. He added that the initiative aims to encourage visitors to explore not only Salalah but also other destinations across the Sultanate.
Ahmed Al Mahrouqi, Vice President of Global Sales at Oman Air, said strategic partnerships are essential to opening new international markets and supporting the growth of inbound tourism. He highlighted Indonesia's potential as an important source market and said the agreement would help increase visitor arrivals, support local tourism businesses and strengthen Oman's position as a year-round travel destination.
