Air New Zealand unveils new 787 Dreamliner ZK-NZT, Air New Zealand's new 787 Dreamliner departs for Auckland

Air New Zealand has taken delivery of the world’s first certified Boeing 787 Dreamliner with increased Maximum Take-off Weight (iMTOW) capability, enhancing its ability to carry passengers, baggage, and cargo on ultra long-range routes, particularly between Auckland and New York. The new aircraft, ZK-NZT, is set to arrive in Auckland tonight at 7.45pm, marking the first addition to the airline's 787 fleet in seven years.

The new Dreamliner features Air New Zealand's latest cabin interiors, including Business Premier Luxe, Business Premier, Premium Economy, and Economy seats, offering enhanced comfort and choice for long-haul travellers. Jeremy O'Brien, Air New Zealand's Chief Customer and Digital Officer, expressed excitement about the new aircraft, stating, "There's something really special about welcoming a brand-new aircraft into the fleet."

The timing of the new aircraft's arrival aligns with the airline's preparations for a busy summer travel period. O'Brien noted, "Having these new aircraft ready to fly means more customers can enjoy our latest onboard experience during our busiest season."

In addition to the new Dreamliner, Air New Zealand plans to introduce its world-first Economy Skynest after the peak summer period. The Skynest will allow Economy passengers to lie down and sleep on long-haul flights, although its launch has been delayed due to regulatory certification processes.

The new 787-9 Dreamliner includes 8 Business Premier Luxe seats, 34 Business Premier seats, 52 Premium Economy seats, and 125 Economy seats, including 9 Skycouch and 24 Economy Stretch seats. The airline's existing 787-9 fleet is also being retrofitted with the new interiors, with completion expected by the end of the year.
