Hong Kong Airlines to launch direct flight to Xining

Hong Kong Airlines announced that it will launch a new route to Xining in Qinghai Province, offering two flights weekly from 9 July 2024. This exclusive direct  flight service will further strengthen connectivity between Hong Kong and mainland China.

Xining, situated on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, serves as a key gateway linking China's eastern and  western regions, including Tibet. Economically, Xining is the primary centre of Qinghai Province,  contributing significantly to the region's agriculture, energy, and tourism sectors. Additionally, it  plays a pivotal role in fostering economic and trade relations between Qinghai Province and  Tibet. Culturally, Xining holds substantial significance, boasting a rich history and traditions  closely connected to Tibetan culture. It is an important cultural hub for the Tibetan people.  Travellers can experience the fusion of eastern and western Chinese cultures in Xining and use  it as a starting point for exploring Tibet. Nearby attractions include the renowned Kumbum  Monastery, the largest inland saltwater lake in China, Qinghai Lake, and the breathtaking "Mirror  of the Sky," Chaka Salt Lake.

Since 27 May, Xining has been included in the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) for travel to Hong  Kong and Macau. Combined with the new direct flight service, this greatly facilitates local  travellers' spontaneous trips to Hong Kong. Meanwhile, this opportunity also allows Hong Kong  residents to connect with cities in western China, experiencing the unique cultural landscapes of  Xining and its surroundings, thereby promoting cultural and economic exchange between the  two regions and international travellers.
