The Philippines secured nominations in three primary categories for the 24th Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.
The country’s Department of Tourism (DOT) sees this as significant recognition for the country on the global travel stage.
In an advisory released on Monday, 14th July, the DOT announced that the Philippines was nominated in the Most Desirable Country by Wanderlust, the longest-running travel publication in the United Kingdom.
Likewise, Cebu gained recognition in the worldwide selection for the Most Desirable Region, while Palawan was nominated in the Most Desirable Island category.
The country also stands to win in several subcategories, including Culture and Heritage, Nature and Wildlife, Adventure, Gastronomy, and Sustainability.
A testament to a nation
Tourism secretary Christina Frasco expressed gratitude for the nominations, calling them a testament to the country’s natural beauty, rich culture, and the warmth of its people.
She said: “Once again, I would personally like to call on our fellow Filipinos, as well as our foreign friends, to show love for the Philippines by choosing it in the upcoming 24th Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.
Voting is open to the public at wanderlusttravelawards.com until 27th October, and winners will be presented during the awards ceremony scheduled for 5th November at the National Gallery in London.
