WestJet has announced the launch of a new non-stop service from Calgary to São Paulo, marking its 100th destination from Calgary International Airport.
Starting 8 November 2026, the airline will operate three weekly flights, offering the first direct connection between Western Canada and South America. This new route is expected to enhance travel options for Canadians and strengthen Calgary's position as a key international hub.
The introduction of this service is a significant milestone for WestJet, which began operations in 1996. Alexis von Hoensbroech, CEO of the WestJet Group, expressed gratitude towards Calgary partners and guests, stating, "This support has made the road from one to 100 possible, and we are proud to further strengthen Calgary's position as the best connected mid-sized city in North America."
The new route not only provides leisure travellers with access to iconic South American landmarks such as the Amazon Rainforest and Iguaçu Falls but also opens up business opportunities. São Paulo, a major economic centre, offers valuable cargo capacity and access to expanding markets. Chris Dinsdale, President and CEO of Calgary Airports, highlighted the importance of this expansion, saying it "brings more of the world to discover our city and our spectacular region."
Pending government approval, WestJet passengers will also gain access to over 30 destinations across South America through its partnership with LATAM Airlines Group. This strategic expansion is expected to boost tourism, trade, and cultural connections between Canada and Brazil, further solidifying Calgary's status as a global connector.
