Klook's latest Travel Pulse 2026 study highlights that Millennials and Gen Z travellers are defying global economic uncertainty by maintaining or increasing their travel budgets. The study, which surveyed 11,000 consumers worldwide, reveals that 88% of these travellers are committed to spending more on travel, with Asia Pacific (APAC) showing a 50% higher intention to increase spending compared to Europe and the US.

The research indicates a shift in travel priorities, with experiences taking precedence over material purchases. APAC travellers, in particular, are driving this trend, showing a strong preference for spending on activities and experiences rather than shopping. "Travel has remained resilient despite the rising cost of living," said Marcus Yong, Vice President of Global Marketing at Klook. "Travellers are prioritising richer experiences and flexible itineraries."

The study also notes a growing interest in multi-destination trips, with two-thirds of travellers planning to visit multiple locations per journey. This shift sees major cities becoming gateways to broader explorations, with destinations like Hiroshima in Japan and Cairns in Australia gaining popularity. APAC Gen Z travellers are at the forefront of this trend, favouring packed itineraries and lesser-known locales.

Social media and artificial intelligence (AI) are playing pivotal roles in travel planning. Whilst social media inspires 80% of global travellers, AI assists with practical aspects like itinerary organisation and budget management. This combination is transforming travel discovery from mere inspiration to informed decision-making.

As 2026 unfolds, the travel industry is witnessing a shift towards more intentional and diverse travel experiences, driven by the evolving preferences of younger generations
