The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and UN Tourism have announced the winners of the first UN Tourism Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Sports Tourism. The awards, revealed at a ceremony in Madrid ahead of the ABB FIA Formula E CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix, recognise leadership and innovation in sustainable tourism, focusing on environmental, social, and economic impacts.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasised the awards' role in setting new sustainability benchmarks. "These awards celebrate sport’s positive impact as a driving force of innovation, sustainable development, and economic growth," he stated.
The winners include Secto Rally Finland for Most Sustainable Sport Event, Salomon Cappadocia Ultra Trail for Community Impact in Sports Tourism, and Saalfelden Leogang for Innovation in Sports Tourism Development. MadCup Universe was recognised for Outstanding Public-Private Partnership in Sports Tourism. Special awards were given to Tirana as the European City of Sports 2023 and the WRC UENO Rally of Paraguay 2025.
UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais remarked, "Our collaboration is now a global platform recognising sustainability, innovation, and community impact."
The awards attracted 70 applications from global organisations, with 28 shortlisted by a seven-member jury. This initiative by UN Tourism and the FIA aims to integrate sport and tourism with sustainable development, creating a lasting legacy for the sector
