The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) is set to present "Bassoon & Baton" on 21 April 2026 at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall. This event, part of the French May Arts Festival 2026, will feature the Hong Kong debut of Sophie Dervaux, a renowned French bassoonist and principal bassoonist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Dervaux will perform bassoon concertos by Vivaldi, Mozart, and Hummel, and will also conduct orchestral works by French composers Lully, Guy Ropartz, and Gossec.
Dervaux's dual role as both soloist and conductor highlights her versatile artistry. Her career includes performances with prestigious orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. She is also a prizewinner of the ARD International Music Competition Munich and the Beethoven Ring Bonn.
In addition to the concert, Dervaux will conduct two public bassoon masterclasses in Hong Kong on 18 and 19 April. These sessions will take place at the Sing Music Academy and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, respectively.
Tickets for the concert are priced at $450, $300, and $220 (450, 300, and 220), with discounts available for students, senior citizens, and others. The event promises to be a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the lyrical and virtuosic capabilities of the bassoon, alongside the orchestral brilliance of the CCOHK
