The hospitality sector in Western India is grappling with a significant increase in operating costs, exacerbated by a recent hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices. This development follows a series of challenges, including intermittent closures and reduced operating hours due to ongoing conflicts. According to Pradeep Shetty, spokesperson for the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India) (HRAWI), these factors have collectively driven up operating costs by approximately 20%.

The increased cost of LPG cylinders is adding further strain to the already tight profit margins of hotels and restaurants. Shetty noted that businesses might have to consider raising menu prices to offset the escalating expenses. "Given this scenario, hospitality establishments may now be left with little choice but to consider an upward revision in menu prices to partially absorb the escalating cost burden," he stated.

HRAWI, a 76-year-old association representing hotels and restaurants across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, is voicing the concerns of the industry. The association is part of the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), which was founded in Mumbai in 1950.

The potential increase in menu prices could impact consumers and further challenge the hospitality sector's recovery efforts. As the industry navigates these pressures, the focus remains on balancing cost management with maintaining customer satisfaction
