Visit Tuscaloosa has announced a landmark achievement of over $1 billion in visitor spending across Tuscaloosa County in 2025.

This milestone underscores the significant role tourism plays in the local economy, driven by a mix of collegiate athletics, cultural events, and strategic marketing efforts. The county recorded more than 750,000 overnight visitors, contributing to 1.1 million paid accommodation room nights and generating $136.2 million in revenue from hotels and short-term rentals.

Visitor spending accounted for 20% of all expenditures in the county, with food and beverage leading at 52%, followed by petrol and service stations at 24%, retail at 16%, and accommodations at 9%. Kelsey Rush, President and CEO of Visit Tuscaloosa, highlighted the impact of tourism, stating, “Every visitor who stays in our hotels, dines in our restaurants, attends events, shops locally or experiences our attractions directly supports jobs, local businesses and the quality of life our residents enjoy every day.”

Sports tourism emerged as a key economic driver, with Visit Tuscaloosa supporting over 160 events, generating $24 million in economic impact and $1.6 million in tax revenue. Notable events included hosting the Athletes Unlimited Softball League games and securing future championships, such as the HBCU Athletic Conference Baseball and Softball Championships for 2026–2028.

The organisation also expanded its offerings with initiatives like the Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Digital Pass and new walking tours. With the launch of the TuscaLife brand and a redesigned website, Visit Tuscaloosa aims to further boost destination awareness and attract more visitors in the coming years
