Malewane Lodge, the original safari lodge of Royal Malewane, has reopened after undergoing its most extensive redesign in 27 years. Located in South Africa's Greater Kruger National Park, the lodge now features refined interiors and redesigned guest spaces, maintaining its heritage whilst offering a modern touch.
The Royal Portfolio, founded by Liz and Phil Biden in 1999, includes The Silo Hotel in Cape Town, La Residence in Franschhoek, and Birkenhead House in Hermanus. The reopening of Malewane Lodge celebrates the property that initiated this acclaimed collection of luxury accommodations.
The lodge, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, accommodates up to 20 guests in six Luxury Suites and two Royal Suites, ensuring an intimate safari experience. Liz Biden, known for her distinctive design style, commented, "Malewane was our very first lodge. We created it with enormous love and instinct rather than a master plan."
Key highlights of the transformation include reconfigured Royal Suites with private courtyards, handcrafted Moroccan doors, and artworks by wildlife artist Larry Norton. The Luxury Suites have been upgraded with new entrance halls and heated swimming pools. The main lodge now boasts an expanded boutique, redesigned bar, and observation lounge.
The Royal Waters Spa has also been updated with new treatment spaces and a fitness centre. Guests arriving by air are greeted at a new arrival pavilion at the Royal Malewane Airstrip, enhancing the experience from the start. Rates begin at $3,230 (approximately ZAR 52,500) per person, all-inclusive
