Glasgow Prestwick Airport has announced an operating profit of $4.8 million (£3.9 million) for the year ending 31 March 2026, an 11% rise from the previous year.

This marks the airport's seventh consecutive year of profitability, driven primarily by a surge in cargo operations.

The airport has solidified its status as a leading UK cargo gateway to Asia, with freight volumes quadrupling to over 46,000 tonnes. Key developments include increased Air China Cargo services and the launch of a seafood export service, supported by investments in a cool chain centre and specialist handling team. "Cargo has been the primary driver of growth during the year," said CEO Jules Matteoni.

Passenger numbers also rose by 11% to over 600,000, with Ryanair increasing summer route frequencies and announcing a new winter route for 2026. The airport's growth has created over 200 jobs, now employing more than 500 people.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport continues to support UK military operations, handling aircraft from NATO-aligned countries. The Ministry of Defence has relocated its Voyager fleet to the airport for five months during RAF Brize Norton's airfield improvements.

Chair Dr Willie Mackie highlighted the airport's role as a major trade hub and gateway for Scottish exports, attributing success to the dedication of its staff. With ongoing investments and expanding international connectivity, the airport is poised for another year of sustainable growth, reinforcing its strategic importance to Scotland's trade ambitions
