TDM AWARDS - NOMINATE NOW!

Enshi Suobuya Stone Forest in China has launched a series of cultural experiences to attract Southeast Asian tourists, capitalising on China's optimised visa-free policies.

This 460-million-year-old geological site, located in Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province, now offers interactive programmes that showcase both natural and cultural wonders.

The stone forest, formed during the Ordovician Period, spans 21 square kilometres and features towering stone peaks amidst lush greenery. It is renowned for its high vegetation coverage and cool summer temperatures, making it an ideal retreat. Visitors can explore four major scenic areas, each offering unique attractions such as panoramic views, ancient biological fossils, and immersive 5D theatre experiences.

Beyond its geological significance, Suobuya Stone Forest is a hub for Tujia culture. Visitors can engage in traditional activities like the Baishou Dance and the Tujia Girls Festival, both recognised as intangible cultural heritage. These events offer a glimpse into the Tujia people's customs, including matchmaking through folk songs and traditional handicraft exhibitions.

The scenic area has enhanced its tourism offerings with activities like horseback exploration and cultural flash mobs. Improved transportation links, including direct flights from Southeast Asia to Enshi Xujiaping International Airport, make the stone forest more accessible. Future plans include expanding routes to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, further integrating the region into the Southeast Asian tourism network
