Virgin Atlantic is set to launch its inaugural direct non-stop flight from London Heathrow to Phuket on 18 October 2026, marking the airline's first route into Southeast Asia. This development follows a meeting between Thailand's Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, and Virgin Atlantic's Chief Commercial Officer, Dave Geer, in London.
The new service will operate three times a week, providing the only direct connection between London and Phuket. This route is expected to boost tourism from the UK to Thailand, offering travellers easier access to the Andaman coast's renowned destinations such as Khao Lak, Phang Nga Bay, and the Phi Phi Islands.
Dave Geer expressed enthusiasm about the new service, stating, "Phuket is a fantastic addition to our network, responding to strong customer demand for premium leisure travel whilst opening up easier access to Thailand’s spectacular Andaman coast."
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has collaborated with Virgin Atlantic to support this route, aiming to attract quality travellers and promote longer stays. Worapa Angkhasirisap, Director of TAT London, highlighted the potential for UK travel agents to introduce customers to the diverse experiences available in southern Thailand.
The route, operated by a Boeing 787-9, will run until 27 March 2027, coinciding with the high season on the Andaman coast. Virgin Atlantic Holidays is offering packages across Thailand, enhancing options for winter-sun, luxury, wellness, and adventure holidays.
