Singaporeans are increasingly setting their sights on China, with a notable shift in preferred destinations, according to recent data from Traveloka. From January to August 2026, searches for travel to China from Singapore surged by 132%, the highest among the five Southeast Asian markets monitored by the travel platform.

The data reveals a growing interest in less traditional Chinese cities. Singaporeans are booking trips to Changchun at more than three times the rate of their regional counterparts, with Shenyang and Kunming also seeing nearly double the interest. Notably, Urumqi has emerged as a popular choice, alongside Harbin and Changchun, indicating a shift towards northern and far western destinations.

Despite this trend, established gateways such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou remain popular. However, bookings to China's "new first-tier" cities have grown more than twice as fast as those to the traditional hubs, suggesting an expanding travel map for Singaporeans.

For those planning year-end holidays, Traveloka's 10.10 Epic Sale, running from 1 to 10 October 2026, offers significant discounts. Travellers can enjoy $73 (S$100) off flights to China, a $146 (S$200) sitewide coupon, and an extra 20% off hotel flash sales, with a focus on destinations like China, Bali, and Japan.

This shift in travel patterns highlights Singaporeans' evolving interests and the increasing appeal of diverse Chinese destinations
