Aod Anon / ShutterstockHBX Group, a leading B2B travel technology marketplace, has announced a partnership with Bioscore, a sustainability certification scheme owner, to assist hotels in achieving recognised sustainability certification. This collaboration is part of HBX Group's Sustainable Certified Hotels Programme, which promotes sustainability certifications aligned with international standards across its hotel portfolio.
The partnership focuses on aiding non-certified hotels in understanding and implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. Bioscore will support hotel partners by explaining the BIOSCORE sustainability scheme requirements and helping organise necessary data for independent evaluation. This initiative is particularly beneficial for small and medium-sized hotels lacking internal resources or specialist ESG capabilities.
Elena Pérez, Chief HR, Comms, and ESG Officer at HBX Group, stated, “Hotels are facing growing expectations to demonstrate their sustainability progress in a way that is credible and transparent, but navigating the certification journey can be complex. As a partner to hotels around the world, we can help make that journey easier.”
The collaboration comes as new EU consumer protection rules, effective from 27 September 2026, demand stricter verification of environmental claims and sustainability labels. Víctor Monzón, CEO of Bioscore, emphasised the importance of substantiating sustainability claims, especially with tightening EU regulations.
This partnership underscores the increasing significance of sustainability certification in the travel industry. HBX Group aims to expand its portfolio of certified hotels, enhancing transparency and aiding travellers in making informed choices. Participation in the initiative is voluntary, with HBX Group recognising certifications aligned with standards such as the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and Travalyst.
