Summer has long been a time for celebrations and festivals, a tradition that MATATO (Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators) has taken to heart with the launch of the Baa Atoll Summer Festival 2018.
Kicking off on 20 July, the two-week festival will bring together some of Baa Atoll favourite resorts and hotels — Soneva Fushi, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, Dusit Thani, Amilla Fushi, Vakkaru Maldives and Finolhu –for what MATATO describes as ‘first and one-of-its-kind festival’ in the Maldives.
The Baa Atoll Summer Festival allows guests from the different resorts to check out the rich and varied range of cuisine available on the atoll by attending dedicated food evenings at the participating locations.
“The Baa Atoll Festival is a brilliant concept and opportunity, and hopefully becomes an annual event that resorts and guests look forward to. And I hope this festival will be marketed to tourists around the world through all these resorts PR channels”, says MATATO president Abdulla Ghiyas.
The festival comes as part of MATATO destination marketing strategy which aims to build upon the 1.3 million tourists the Maldives received in 2017. And, it is a smashing idea, which not only harnesses the power of the festival partner’s marketing machines as Ghiyas points out but, by giving guests the chance to investigate the different styles of hospitality from a range of properties across the atoll, the festival should instil a desire to return and build the reputation of an already blossoming market even further.
The Baa Atoll Festival officially opens on Friday 20 July with swanky cocktail parties taking place simultaneously at all of the resorts. From Saturday 21 July each resort will welcome the guests from other resorts with a special set menu for dinner in their featured dining restaurant, for two consecutive weeks on a designated night.
