The study by Bounce analysed factors such as the overall number of litres consumed by each country, along with how many litres on average a person consumes, to reveal the best locations for wine tourism if you love a glass or two!
The Top 10 countries for wine lovers:
Portugal consumes 600 million litres of wine a year, which is less than nations such as France and Italy overall, but the most when measured per person. Wine is an integral part of Portuguese culture, with a long history of winemaking that stretches back thousands of years and this puts Portugal as the top destination for wine lovers to visit!
Italy is known as the birthplace of some of the world's most celebrated wines, with a vinicultural history spanning thousands of years, back to ancient civilizations.The country has the largest wine production, making it no shock that 2.3bn litres of wine are consumed in Italy, putting her second in the world for highest wine consumption.
In third place is France, another country known for its winemaking and considered one of the most influential and prestigious wine-producing countries in the world. French wines have consistently been regarded among the best in the world, so naturally its taken advantage of with 2.5bn litres consumed a year!
