Bohol airport welcomes first Japanese charter flight

Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) celebrated a significant milestone on 2 May 2026, as it welcomed 163 Japanese visitors arriving on Cebu Pacific's first-ever chartered flight from Narita, Japan. This event underscores Bohol's growing appeal as a premier destination for international travellers and signals renewed interest from the Japanese market.

Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado expressed optimism about the development, highlighting its potential to boost the local tourism industry and economy. "This is a very encouraging development for Bohol. We are hopeful that this chartered flight will pave the way for regular international arrivals, particularly from Japan, which has always been a valued tourism market for us," he stated.

The initiative is driven by Aboitiz InfraCapital Bohol Airport Corporation (ABAC), the operator of BPIA. During the Bohol Business Mission to Japan in September 2025, ABAC engaged in discussions with JTB Corporation, a charter flight organiser, to promote the airport's modern infrastructure and expand Japanese tourist arrivals. Further assessments of the airport's Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine facilities were conducted in October to ensure seamless international operations.

General Manager Aldwin Uy emphasised the importance of collaboration, stating, "We are proud to support this milestone arrival made possible through our strong partnership with Cebu Pacific, the Provincial Government of Bohol, and our tourism partners in Japan."

The successful arrival of this charter flight reflects ongoing efforts to position Bohol as a key gateway for international travel in the Philippines. Stakeholders remain optimistic about strengthening international air links and sustaining the growth of Bohol's tourism sector
