China Eastern Airlines’ DIMOO-themed plane marks 50 years of Sino-Thai diplomacy

The new livery is the result of a collaboration with the creatives at POP MART

China Eastern Airlines teamed up with au courant toy company POP MART to present a limited-edition DIMOO-themed aircraft

Unveiled on Friday, 4th July, the livery celebrates five decades of diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Thailand.

The custom designed aircraft will serve routes connecting major cities in China with Bangkok.

The initiative follows the formal recognition of DIMOO as a Special Friend of the China-Thailand Golden Jubilee at an official reception held on 30th June.

In attendance at the event were Piyapak Sricharoen, director-general of the  Department of East Asian Affairs at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Chang Yumeng, minister-counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand.

The beloved character also stole the show at a launch ceremony held in Bangkok, wherein a short animated film showcased the exclusive aircraft design.

More than just another mascot

As 2025 marks the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, initiatives of this kind highlight the role that contemporary intellectual property figures such as DIMOO can play in serving as innovative platforms for strengthening cross-cultural engagement and advancing people-to-people ties.

Indeed, the bespoke DIMOO design intricately weaves cultural motifs from both nations.

During the launch programme, a full-scale DIMOO mascot made a surprise appearance, joining artist AYAN in presenting commemorative 50th-anniversary gift sets to diplomatic guests.

The gesture served as both a tribute to the enduring relationship between China and Thailand and a demonstration of how modern character-based media can serve as platforms for deepening international friendship and cross-cultural connection.
