Emirates has joined the ranks of leading global airlines by becoming the latest carrier to install SpaceX’s cutting-edge Starlink WiFi technology, promising free, ultra-fast internet access to all passengers across every cabin class. Starting this month, Emirates will begin retrofitting its entire fleet of 232 Boeing 777 and A380 aircraft, aiming for completion by mid-2027.
The rollout kicks off with Starlink installations on its Boeing 777 fleet beginning November 23, 2025, immediately following a showcase of the aircraft at the Dubai Airshow. From February 2026, Emirates will also begin equipping its iconic A380 aircraft, using an industry-first system of up to three antennae per plane to ensure unmatched connectivity and coverage throughout the cabin.
Passengers will benefit from seamless, high-speed internet that enables streaming, video calls, online gaming, and browsing on both seatback screens and personal devices simultaneously. Business travellers gain the added advantage of full bandwidth for uploading and downloading important files without interruption, making in-flight work easier than ever. Unlike some competitors, Emirates customers will not need to enrol in any loyalty programme to access the complimentary WiFi, ensuring hassle-free, universal connectivity onboard.
This Starlink installation is part of a broader, multi-billion-dollar transformation, which also includes retrofitting 191 aircraft with new premium economy cabins, enhanced business class, and refreshed first-class suites. Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates, emphasised the airline’s philosophy of delivering consistent, top-quality products across its entire fleet rather than varied offerings restricted by aircraft or route.
Emirates plans a rapid rollout pace, upgrading approximately 14 aircraft monthly until the entire fleet is connected. This move positions Emirates to operate the world’s largest Starlink-enabled wide-body fleet, reinforcing its commitment to delivering industry-leading in-flight experiences.
Other notable airlines that have adopted Starlink WiFi include British Airways, Qatar Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and United Airlines, signalling a growing industry trend toward high-speed satellite internet as the new standard for in-flight connectivity.
As Emirates embarks on this ambitious connectivity upgrade, travellers can look forward to a future where in-flight WiFi approaches the quality and reliability of ground-based internet—transforming air travel into a seamlessly connected experience for leisure and business passengers alike.
