Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) has announced a partnership with Metropolis to offer a fully contactless parking experience starting 14 July.
This initiative allows travellers to drive in and out of FAT's parking lots without tickets or kiosks, streamlining the parking process in California's Central Valley.
Travellers can access the new system by downloading the Metropolis app or scanning a QR code at parking lot entrances to register their phone number, licence plate, and payment method. The system automatically recognises vehicles upon arrival and departure, processes payments, and sends digital receipts.
This partnership builds on the existing relationship between FAT and SP, a Metropolis company, which has managed parking at the airport for decades. The transition to Metropolis' platform enhances the modernisation efforts at FAT, which saw over 2.7 million passengers in 2025 and was named one of the Top 10 Best Small Airports in the US by USA Today's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards.
Fresno City Manager Georgeanne White expressed enthusiasm for the new technology, stating it provides a modern parking experience whilst offering greater visibility into parking demand and operations. Rob Mitchell, Vice President of Aviation at Metropolis, highlighted the milestone of bringing their platform to FAT, emphasising the removal of parking friction and improved efficiency.
The partnership aligns with FAT's commitment to innovation, following its largest expansion project, FATforward, which included a new concourse and parking garage. Cash payments will still be accepted, with designated lanes and authorised personnel available to assist
