Heidi, the UK's second-largest ski package holiday company, has unveiled four alternative ski resorts that offer high-altitude skiing at significantly reduced prices. According to new research by Mountain Trade Network, altitude has become the second most important factor for skiers when choosing a resort, after ski area size. Heidi's data shows that bookings to these alternative resorts have nearly doubled year-on-year.
The company has identified four swaps that provide comparable altitude and ski area access for less. Marcus Blunt, Co-Founder of Heidi, stated, “We've identified four alternatives where you can enjoy impressive mountain terrain, high-altitude skiing and big ski areas, with significant savings.”
- **Sestriere, Italy**: A swap for Cervinia, Sestriere offers skiing at 2,035m, just 15m below Cervinia. Heidi's packages here are 46% cheaper, saving around $1,500 (£1,235) per person over a week, with bookings up 181% year-on-year.
- **La Rosière, France**: Comparable to Val d’Isère, La Rosière offers skiing up to 2,800m. Packages are 33% cheaper, saving around $730 (£600) per person weekly, with bookings up 135%.
- **Les Menuires, France**: An alternative to Val Thorens, Les Menuires provides access to the same 600km ski area. Packages are 15% cheaper, saving around $300 (£245) per person weekly, with bookings up 77%.
- **Kaprun, Austria**: A substitute for St Anton, Kaprun offers skiing up to 3,029m. Packages are 35% cheaper, saving around $1,080 (£865) per person weekly, with bookings up 73%.
Heidi's innovative approach not only offers financial savings but also ensures skiers can enjoy high-altitude skiing without compromising on quality. As the ski season approaches, these swaps present a compelling option for budget-conscious skiers.
