The Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) was invited to participate in the POLYCC x MAH @ LIMA 2025 programme in appreciation of the way it adopted and trained students from the Langkawi Tourism Academy @ Kolej Komuniti Langkawi (LTA).
The initiative was organised by the Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik dan Kolej Komuniti (JPPKK) in collaboration with LTA and the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), and was officiated in conjunction with LIMA 2025 from 18 to 26 May 2025.
LIMA also marked MITEC’s bold step into high-end offsite catering which seeks to showcase Malaysia not only through industry, but through the rich flavours of its cultural heritage.
Richard Teo, executive chair of Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd which manages MITEC, remarked: “At LIMA 2025, Richard highlighted the crucial role of education in sustainable development, reaffirming MITEC’s commitment to supporting Quality Education through the #myWorld Program. By equipping youth with essential skills in aerospace, technology, and innovation, and fostering strong public-private partnerships, MITEC aims to create greater access to quality learning nationwide.”
Teo further emphasised that investing in education is key to empowering future leaders and innovators.
For her part, MITEC chief executive Mala Dorasamy said: “It was an honour for MITEC to collaborate with the LTA students, with even the lecturers stepping in to assist. The support and commitment shown despite the long hours were truly remarkable, ensuring excellence in both culinary and service delivery. The enthusiasm displayed by these young individuals is inspiring and a testament to their potential as our future leaders.”
Offering exposure to professional environments
Led by Malaysian deputy minister of higher education Mustapha Sakmud, the programme aims to provide real industry exposure and hands-on experience to students and lecturers from polytechnics and community colleges across Malaysia.
A total of 141 students will undergo industrial training at top hotels in Langkawi, while 12 lecturers will participate in industry placements to upgrade their technical knowledge in hospitality.
The MITEC #myWorld Program actively supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education by fostering capacity building through technology-driven learning, skills development, and inclusive educational access.
By equipping students and educators with digital tools, resources, and training, the program empowers individuals to improve learning outcomes and enhance employability, particularly in underserved communities.
MITEC's initiatives promote lifelong learning opportunities and reduce educational inequality, ensuring that participants are better prepared for the demands of a modern, knowledge-based economy.
