Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Singapore’s largest homegrown owner and operator and global hotel leader, Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) has renewed its partnership with Community Chest (ComChest) with a three-year pledge amounting S$1 million in monetary donations towards vulnerable communities across Singapore.
A partner of ComChest since 2023, MHR is contributing S$500,000 in 2025 followed by S$250,000 annually in 2026 and 2027 towards children with special needs and youths at risk – one of ComChest’s focus areas. MHR will also continue to support ComChest’s Change for Charity initiative which supports more than 200 critical social service programmes.
Since 2022, Millennium Hotels and Resorts (MHR) has embraced inclusive hiring practices, actively employing individuals with disabilities as part of its commitment to creating an equitable workplace. Department heads are trained to understand the unique needs of these team members and match them with roles that suit their strengths. Duties are carefully tailored to ensure a supportive environment. To further facilitate a smooth transition, each employee is paired with an experienced ‘work buddy’ and offered flexible arrangements such as reduced starting hours to help them integrate
Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of City Developments Limited (CDL) and its hotel arm, Millennium Hotels and Resorts, said, “What began as a homegrown hospitality group has evolved into a globally recognised brand, with Millennium Hotels and Resorts now spanning four continents. As we celebrate this significant 30-year milestone, we take pride not only in our global expansion but also in our commitment to giving back. This partnership with ComChest reinforces our dedication to making a meaningful change to society, by providing sustainable support for children and youth who require assistance.”
Kwek Eik Sheng, CDL Group Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Millennium Hotels and Resorts said, “When we first partnered with ComChest in 2023, our aim was to extend our impact beyond the hospitality industry. With this pledge, we are taking a bigger leap in our commitment to giving, honouring all who have supported us throughout the years and contributed to our success today. Together, we hope to strengthen resilience within the community and rally more businesses and individuals to create more opportunities to support those in need.”
Saurabh Prakash, Interim Chief Operating Officer & Chief Commercial Officer, Millennium Hotels and Resorts said, “As we celebrate our 30 years of legacy, we want to reaffirm our corporate social responsibility at the core of our operations. The hotel industry offers many opportunities and pathways. With the right training, right job placement and the right support system in place, our special needs employees have found their sense of belonging and adapting well to the fast-paced environment and high volume of guest interactions. We value them just as much as our other employees and they have contributed to our company’s success. With our ongoing partnership through ComChest and new initiative with The Salvation Army’s Gracehaven Children’s Home, we hope to continue creating lasting impact in the communities we serve.”
Community Chest also welcomed the partnership, emphasising its potential to create meaningful change.
Chew Sutat, Chairman, Community Chest, said: “Millennium Hotels and Resorts is leading by example in sustainable philanthropy through their three-year commitment in partnering Community Chest to support over 82,000 individuals and families in need. On top of a longer-term approach to uplifting lives, their generous contribution also qualifies for the SG Gives matching grant, which multiplies the impact of their donations. We are encouraged by more companies contributing to sustain social service efforts. This strong community spirit is important as we build a shared future together this SG60 and beyond.”
MHR’s other initiatives to drive long-term and sustainable social impact
From 2025 to 2027, MHR will be supporting over 200 meaningful programmes through a series of initiatives to enhance accessibility and opportunities in key areas such as disability inclusion, youth empowerment, family resilience, mental health advocacy, and elderly care.
To officiate its renewed partnership with ComChest, MHR will host its Annual Charity Dinner on 29 August 2025 as part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations to reinforce MHR’s ongoing dedication to philanthropy and supporting Singapore’s vulnerable communities.
To commemorate Singapore’s 60th year of independence, MHR is rallying employee donations in support of SGSHARE through direct donations or payroll deductions, the nationwide giving initiative by Community Chest. This collective effort reflects the company’s dedication to community impact and fostering a culture of generosity among its employees.
Expanding its social community efforts, MHR is also sponsoring a monthly meal programme from April to December 2025 in collaboration with The Salvation Army’s Gracehaven Children’s Home. Gracehaven provides a safe and structured environment for children and youth who have experienced abuse, neglect, or require additional support. Through this initiative, MHR will ensure these children receive nutritious bento meals each month, supporting their well-being and development.
