Mövenpick expands in Asia
Mövenpick is stepping up its global expansion with the signing of two new hotels in Vietnam and the Philippines.
The two new properties are the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Quy Nhon in Vietnam and the Mövenpick Hotel Makati City, in the Philippine capital Manila.
The move is in line with the Swiss hospitality company’s strategy to create a balanced portfolio of approximately 25 hotels in each of the region it operates – Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The new properties are an addition to the worldwide portfolio of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts which currently operates 72 hotels and has a further 30 projects under development.
“We already operate seven hotels in Asia including two in Thailand, two in Vietnam and one each in the Philippines, India and Singapore, but the new properties will bring the number of hotels we have under development in Asia up to 18,” said Andreas Mattmüller, Chief Operating Officer for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Middle East and Asia. “Our vision is to operate 25 hotels in the region by 2015.”
The Mövenpick Resort & Spa Quy Nhon is Mövenpick’s third hotel in Vietnam following openings in Saigon and Hanoi. The new resort, scheduled to open at the end of 2015, will be built to the highest environmentally sustainable standards on a cliff overlooking the South China Sea.
The Mövenpick Hotel Makati is set to open in 2016 and is the third property to be operated by the Swiss company in the Philippines. Based in the Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Tower, the new hotel will feature 304 rooms and suites as well as 250 residences.
“The announcement of these two significant management contracts comes at an exciting time for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts,” added Mattmüller.
