Ritz-Carlton has unveiled plans to open a new “urban resort” in the Malaysian city of Petalingjaya.

Scheduled to open in 2016, the hotel will be set within a 53-storey tower in the new Empire City development, making it one of the tallest buildings in the area.

“We are delighted to have been chosen to manage such a unique property in Malaysia.  This hotel will be a welcome addition to our growing Asian portfolio,” said Herve Humler, Ritz-Carlton’s president & chief operating officer.

Few details of the new hotel have been made available, but it will feature 288 rooms and suites. Empire City meanwhile, covers more than 12 hectares and will include approximately 230,000m² of retail space and 111,000m² of office space, along with the Ritz-Carlton hotel.

It will become the brand’s second hotel in Malaysia, following the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur.
