Sands China marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of its Sands Gallery booth at Art Central, Hong Kong's premier international art event. The booth, unveiled on 24 March, features contemporary works by three promising Macao artists—Lei Ieng Wai, Leong Chi Mou, and Dor Lio Hak Man—alongside a historical collection from "A Century of Iec Long Firecracker Factory in Radiance," currently on display at Sands Gallery in Macao.
This debut not only highlights Sands China's commitment to promoting Macao's art and culture but also positions the company as the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise from Macao to join Art Central as an Associate Partner. The event attracted nearly 100 distinguished guests, underscoring the growing recognition of Macao's art scene on the international stage.
The Sands Gallery booth, open to the public from 25 to 29 March, presents over 40 artworks. Lei's pieces explore urban life's fluidity through scientific aesthetics, Leong examines cultural identity through personal migration narratives, and Lio blends Japanese manga with Western painting to create imaginative spaces. The exhibition also includes original Macao firecracker packaging labels, celebrating the centenary of the Iec Long Firecracker Factory.
Dr Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd, expressed pride in showcasing Macao's artistic talent globally. "Through the power of art, we hope to bring the world closer and deepen people's understanding of one another," he stated.
The event also features a seminar by Professor Ung Vai Meng on Macao's firecracker industry's visual culture, further enriching the cultural exchange. Sands China's participation aims to elevate Macao's arts and cultural sector, fostering international competitiveness and talent development
