Sri Lanka Concludes Roadshows at Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai

Sri Lanka Tourism intensified its promotional strategies towards Indian travellers by highlighting the country’s diverse tourism offerings to key markets in India by hosting a series of roadshows (B2B) and networking evenings in Madurai, Coimbatore & Chennai on the 06th, 08th and 10th October 2025 respectively. The event attracted over 400 Travel Agents and Tour Operators from these markets with over 39 stakeholders from Sri Lanka showcasing the destination. To attract more tourists from Southern part of India, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) organized these roadshows (B2B) and Networking Evenings to promote Sri Lanka as a year-round destination for all segments of tourists. These events showcased Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, diverse attractions, resilience, and growth, to strengthen ties between Sri Lanka and India. The delegation comprised of 39 Sri Lankan stakeholders reaching out to travel partners in India. The delegation comprised Destination Management Companies, (Leisure and MICE) leading hotels & resorts, tour-operators and other service providers from Sri Lanka. The industry stakeholders had B2B interactions with their Indian industry peers in each city. The events brought together over 200 participants in respective cities, comprised of Indian travel agents, key figures in the industry, and media delegates. The aim of this tourism initiative is to foster stronger ties between Sri Lanka and India, creating opportunities for beneficial collaborations in the tourism industry. This series of events is a vital part of Sri Lanka Tourism’s ongoing commitment to cultivating its strong ties with the Indian market. India has consistently maintained its position as the top source market for Sri Lanka, contributing to 22% of total tourist arrivals. From January to September 2025, Sri Lanka welcomed 1,725,494 tourists, of which 375,292 were from India. This upward trend reflects the growing demand and connectivity between the two countries. Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings have already crossed USD 2.3   billion by August 2025. This intensive effort emphasises Sri Lanka's commitment to strengthening its position as a preferred destination for Indian travellers, offering a blend of breath-taking landscapes, vibrant culture, and world-class hospitality. Through dialogues and presentations, the event highlighted Sri Lanka’s breath-taking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality, enticing travellers to return again and again as the beautiful island nation is set to capture the hearts, enticing repeat customers with promises of unforgettable experiences. Participants were treated to a showcase of Sri Lanka’s diverse offerings, from pristine beaches to ancient temples, signalling a new era of tourism excellence for the Island Nation.

Sarovar Portico Sriperumbudur opens with 156 keys on the Chennai–Bangalore Highway

Hong Kong’s home carrier Cathay Pacific has announced the introduction of a Premium Economy cabin on flights from Chennai to Hong Kong. This underscores Cathay Pacific’s commitment to investing in not only its network, but also its customer experience. The airline will operate its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, to cater to diverse traveller preferences. ATOAI, MOT and IITTM complete RATG course in Chennai

The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, India Tourism (South) Chennai Office, and the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), announce the successful completion of the Responsible Adventure Tourism Guide Course (RATG) held in Chennai from December 16th to 19th, 2024. The Ministry of Tourism sponsored this training program and in association with ATOAI organizing it in all 5 regions of the country, showing MOT’s commitment towards safe and quality operations in Adventure Tourism. This significant initiative aimed at promoting safer, sustainable, responsible and gender-responsive adventure tourism practises in India was made possible through the exceptional support of Mr. D. Venkatesan, Regional Director, Southern Region, Ministry of Tourism, and his dedicated team. ATOAI extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Chennai, for providing an ideal learning environment that enhanced the overall learning experience. The intensive four-day training program was led by the Hanifl Center, a recognised authority on wilderness first aid and sustainable adventure education and trained 31 adventure guides from the southern region of India. IndiGo launches daily direct flights from Chennai to Penang

IndiGo, India's preferred airline, today commenced operations on its new exclusive daily direct flight route between Chennai and Penang. Etihad Airways and Chennai Super Kings unveil striking new livery

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has revealed a brand new livery featuring the colours and branding of its partner, Indian cricket giants the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The aircraft, which is the first Airbus A320neo to be operated by a UAE carrier and 20% more fuel efficient than previous generation aircraft, will serve on Etihad’s short haul routes. The aircraft’s inaugural flight will take place in December to CSK’s home base in Chennai, India, delighting the millions of fans visiting and residing in the city. Arik De, chief revenue and commercial officer, Etihad Airways, said: “We are delighted to once again demonstrate our commitment to the Indian market and celebrate our partnership with CSK with this stunning new livery in the bold yellow and blue colours of the Chennai Super Kings. We are incredibly proud of our partnership with CSK and the joy that cricket brings to so many people around the world. “With our rapidly expanding global network, we are able to showcase the CSK special livery to millions of people in destinations wide and far, and bring more fans globally to the game we love and enjoy,” he added. In February, Etihad became official sponsor of the Indian Premier League team, CSK, for the 2024 season, with a special ceremony launching the partnership held in Chennai and attended by thousands of fans. Etihad has since brought the partnership to life at matches with engaging fan experiences and activations, including distributing bespoke whistles in the shape of aircraft for fans to cheer on the players in the traditional CSK style ‘whistle podu’. Etihad operates 181 flights per week to 11 Indian cities, connecting Indian guests to a wide range of destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America. In 2024, the airline launched new routes to Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, as well as the ‘pink city’ of Jaipur and added frequencies to key gateways of Mumbai and Delhi. IndiGo starts non-stop flights from Chennai to Penang

IndiGo, India's preferred airline, announces exclusive daily direct flights between Chennai and Penang, starting December 21, 2024. Penang will be IndiGo's third direct destination in Malaysia, following Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. Royal Brunei Airlines launches direct flights to Chennai

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) announced the official launch of its new direct flight route between Bandar Seri Begawan and Chennai, India.  RB’s Airbus A320neo landed at Chennai International Airport on Tuesday, 5th November, at approximately 22:50LT and was greeted by a water cannon salute.  This new connection signifies a significant expansion in RB's global network.  It also marks a historic step in strengthening the cultural, economic, and people-to-people ties between Brunei Darussalam and India. Royal Brunei Airlines' new route offers three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, providing seamless travel for leisure and business passengers.  Passengers will travel aboard the modern Airbus A320neo, known for its quiet and fuel-efficient performance.  With the strategic codeshare agreement with Air India, passengers flying to and from Chennai can easily connect to other major destinations in RB's network, including Melbourne, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, Seoul, Manila, and Taipei. A celebration in India The airline celebrated the launch in Chennai through a series of events in collaboration with the Brunei High Commission in India, the Brunei Economic and Development Board (BEDB), and Brunei Tourism (BT) at the ITC Grand Chola in Chennai, aimed at strengthening partnerships, promoting Brunei as a unique destination, and showcasing investment opportunities for Indian businesses.
